Obituary
Carroll L. Forehand, 78, a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, passed away suddenly at his home on June 5, 2023. Predeceased by his parents Alvin Lee and Eunice Baines Forehand and his brother Alvin Lonnie Forehand. Carroll is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann Slaydon Forehand; son, Brian Forehand and husband Austin Blakeslee; daughter, Jennifer Round and husband Lance; granddaughter, Hannah Round; and several nieces and nephews.
Carroll worked in the shipping industry for over 45 years, retiring as a Customs Broker in 2008. He was a past president of the Hampton Roads Foreign Commerce Club, Hampton Roads Coal Association, and the Customs Brokers and International Freight Forwarders of Virginia, past committee chairman of the Hampton Roads Maritime Association, and committee member of the Virginia Port Authority Advisory Conference. He loved to travel and together with his wife visited well over 60 countries, most recently returning from Iceland and Norway just last week.
Carroll was a car enthusiast and longtime member of the Virginia Classic Thunderbird Club and the Mercedes-Benz Club of America, Virginia Section. Carroll was a cancer survivor and devoted time each year since 2015 to raise money for Children's Cancer Research by riding his bike over 1,500 miles and raising over $5,000 for the Great Cycle Challenge, in which he was planning to participate again this September.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Sturtevant Funeral Home Bennetts Creek Chapel with Rev. Robert Cofield, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
